Administratively, the district with 406 villages, three being un-inhabited. Doda District has been divided in two Sub Divisions viz Doda,   Bhadarwah. It has four Tehsils Doda, Bhadarwah,  Thathri,Gandoh. There are 08 Rural Development Blocks comprising Bhadarwah, Ghat(Doda), Thathri, Gandoh,      Bhagwah, Assar,   Marmat and Gundana. The number of Panchyats is 232.

District Administration

The head of District Administration is Deputy Commissioner. He also acts as the collector in case of Revenue matters, as District Development Commissioner in case of District Developmental works, as District Magistrate in case of maintenance of Law and Order and General Administration, as District Election Officer in case of conduct of Election. The Deputy Commissioner is aided by a number of Officers like Additional Deputy Commissioner, Doda, Assistant Commissioner (Revenue) Doda, Sub. Divisional Magistrate Gandoh/ Bhaderwah.

 
Revenue Administration

Revenue Administration has historically been the primary responsibility of District Administration. This involves collection and fixing of land revenue, registration, mutation and overall management in regard to land- private and public. Besides the revenue branch of the Deputy Commissioner's office, which is looked after by Assistant Commissioner (Revenue), there are four (4) outlying Revenue Circles (Tehsils) in the district, supervised by Tehsildars. Tehsildars are responsible for collecting land revenue (Khazna) from land owners (pattadars). All the Tehsildars and also the settlement officer (since settlement operation is in operation in the District) are required to submit 'doul' (demand of revenue) to DC, and after his approval, Tehsildars are to collect revenue as per the demand. The four (4) Tehsils of District Doda are given as under:

District Development

Apart from Revenue matters, District Development is one very important objective of the District Administration. As head of the District Administration, DC is responsible for all round development activities in the district under various programmes such as MP's Local Area Fund (MPLAND), MLA's fund, Untied Fund, Sub-divisional Plan Scheme Fund, Employment Assurance Scheme (EAS) fund and so on. For this work, the DC assigns one Assistant Commissioner (Development) the specific task of looking after and coordinating various developmental activities undergoing in various sectors. All development departments in the district, like PWD, Irrigation, Health, Education and many others are aided in this matter by the Planning Section of the DDC's Office, headed by the Chief Planning Officer. Under the Government policy of rapid upliftment of rural population, a District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) is functioning in the district which has the DDC as Chairman and one Project Director as its functional head. All schemes for Rural Development are implemented by agency and in this work, it is aided by the 8 (eight) Community Development Blocks situated in outlying rural areas of the district. These C.D. Blocks are supervised by Block Development Officers (BDO's).

Local Administration

For management and implementation of various developmental schemes, Municipal Committee are constituted for Urban Areas and Panchayat Bodies for the rural areas. District Doda has two Municipal Committees as follows:

Law and Order

Maintenance of Law and Order is another important aspect of district administration and the DC also being the D.M. is responsible for proper maintenance of the same. The DC is aided by the ADM's, SDM's and EM's. The Tehsildar of the Tehsils also function as Executive Magistrates and are responsible for maintenance of Law and Order in their respective Tehsils. The DM and other magistrates take the necessary assistance from the police department for any necessity. District Police Administration is headed by the Senior Superintendent of Police.
